When NC Electric Cooperatives approached us, they had a clear goal: create a microgrid animation series that explained how microgrids work and why they matter to local communities. The challenge? Microgrids are vital to energy resilience and sustainability—but the concept can feel complex or abstract to most audiences.
So we set out to make it simple, visual, and compelling.
Using Microgrid Animation to Simplify Energy Concepts
Our solution was a two-part animated series. Each video was short, clean, and clear—designed to educate both members and community stakeholders in under a minute.
- Microgrid Chapter 1: What Is a Microgrid?
This video introduces microgrids as small, local power systems that can operate independently from the main grid. They’re particularly useful during outages and emergencies. Because they integrate solar panels, battery storage, and other renewable sources, microgrids also support sustainability. - Microgrid Chapter 2: Why Microgrids Matter
In this follow-up video, we explained how microgrids benefit both energy providers and communities. They reduce strain during peak usage times and help lower costs over time.
Both animations relied on clean visuals, relatable scenarios, and direct narration to deliver technical content without the jargon.

The final animations became key tools for NC Electric Cooperatives. They now use them to educate members, stakeholders, and the general public about their role in powering North Carolina’s future.
Not only did this microgrid animation make the subject understandable—it also reinforced the cooperatives’ ongoing commitment to innovation, reliability, and clean energy.
