Faces of Recovery

Wake County
Wake County shares the dangers of stigma around addiction and substance use as well as all the ways people are fighting to end stigma for the benefit of their community.

Addiction and substance use are difficult realities that impact communities across the country—and Wake County is no exception. Unfortunately, these challenges have only grown in recent years, creating a greater need for awareness, support, and honest conversation.

Breaking the Stigma

The biggest barrier to healing is often the stigma that keeps people silent. This was the driving force behind the creation of “Faces of Recovery,” a video project that highlights real stories and real people from across Wake County who are facing substance use with strength and support.

Wake County approached us with a clear vision. Their team had already developed a thoughtful script rooted in years of public health efforts. From the outset, we worked closely with them to understand the tone, messaging, and emotional depth required for such a sensitive topic.

A Compassionate Creative Approach

Our goal was to strike a delicate balance—creating a video that is honest and informative, while still offering hope. The message is simple but powerful: Recovery is possible, and it’s for everyone. Every family, every community, and every face has a role to play.

To underscore this, the creative direction emphasized authenticity, diversity, and compassion. We wanted viewers to walk away feeling encouraged—not only about their own journey, but also about the community working together to support recovery.

Grounded in Place and People

The video opens with wide, open shots of Raleigh. These visuals establish a clear sense of place, grounding the story in Wake County’s neighborhoods and streets. From there, we introduce a series of hero shots—portraits of individuals as they begin to speak through voiceover.

This structure reinforces the message that recovery is deeply personal. Faces come first, followed by their words. The effect is both intimate and human, capturing the viewer’s attention and inviting them into each individual’s perspective.

Honoring Real Stories

To convey sincerity, we paired voiceovers with authentic footage of people living their lives—spending time with family, sharing laughs, or simply enjoying a moment outdoors. Whenever possible, we used natural afternoon sunlight to create warmth and emotional depth, with lens flares that added a gentle, hopeful glow.

In particular, we wanted to highlight the wide range of voices in our community. From elected officials like Mayor Gilbert of Apex to individuals with personal recovery stories, each person brought a unique and vital perspective.

A Message of Hope

Ultimately, “Faces of Recovery” is a reminder that recovery isn’t just about the individual—it’s about the community. It’s about listening, supporting, and believing in what’s possible. This campaign encourages people to speak out, seek help, and support those on the path to healing.

We’re honored to be part of a project that helps shift the narrative around addiction—from one of shame and silence to one of empathy, support, and resilience.

Want to use powerful storytelling to break barriers and spark connection? Let’s make it amazing.
